It can be difficult coming up with new and enticing ideas to keep buyers coming back for more regardless of what the product is. When it comes to watches, this can be particularly difficult since all products have the same intentions, showing the time. For Baume Mercier, seeing the time is the last reason you purchase a watch. To follow with their thinking, Vice Versa is set to revolutionize the watch industry, or at least the fashion industry.
How many people actually buy a watch so they can have the time? If everyone bought a watch based off of wanting to know the time, there would only be a need for one model and one style. It is the same thing when it comes to clothes, cars, shoes and so on. But we live in a world where diversification and fashion is of utmost importance. Because of this, Baume and Mercier may be catching on to something.
Baume et Mercier just recently released a new women's watch entitled Vice Versa. The concept of the watch completely defeats the purpose of having a watch, but it does provide style. Oh yea, you can see the time too if you were interested.
This new women's watch is different than any other kind of watch because it entails you wearing it inside out, hence vice versa. With this watch, you are supposed to wear the timepiece on the inside of your wrist so that you can sport the fashion on the outside. While the timepiece is on the inside of your wrist, the other part of the band features a beautiful stainless steel jeweled buckle.
So let's just say for the heck of it, you decide that you do in fact want to see the time. This may sound kind of weird, but just follow along with me for a second. All you have to do is turn your wrist, slide down an additional buckle and read your concealed watch. All of the other times though you have a beautifully crafted fashion strap. If you want to jazz your fashion strap up even more, Vice Versa comes in a diamond version as well.
So what does this new and innovative idea mean for the watch industry? For the time being, it will be interesting to see what people think about the idea. It may not work for men because the idea of purchasing a watch not to see the time doesn't make sense. But for women, having a fashion strap may be exactly what the watch industry has been waiting for this whole time. Only time will tell if Baume et Mercier's Vice Versa will revolutionize how watches are made from here on.
