Protein Isolate Vs Concentrate
Troy I. Degarnham
In its raw state, whey isolate is a by-product of the cheese making process. In order to understand how it proves beneficial for bodybuilding it is necessary to have the knowledge of where it comes from. Whey isolate is gathered once the cheese making has ended and it is put through a process called micro-filtration. This process separates the milk sugars and the fat from the protein. The end result is called whey isolate or whey concentrate and becomes available to the consumer in either form.
Deciding which product is right for you is sometimes a difficult task. There are a few differences between whey isolate and whey concentrate that need to be sorted out in determining the right supplement. The protein content in whey isolate is very pure. Whey isolate is also higher in protein content per portion than whey concentrate, which naturally makes whey isolate a favoured choice. Whey isolate contains much less fat content and less lactose per serving and those facts make isolate a nice supplement for those that suffer from lactose intolerance.
The basic differences between isolate and concentrate can't be narrowed down to the isolate being more pure. That fact doesn't necessarily constitute a better supplement. In fact, most weight and strength-training experts state that both products have an enormous benefit to the diet of a bodybuilder. Isolate is typically a product that lactose intolerant people choose because it has a lower content of lactose and milk fats.
Whey isolate is processed in a way to remove most of the milk sugars and fats however this is a major downfall. There are many immune boosting properties that are drained from isolate in the filtering process. Whey concentrate is not filtered in this manner and retains all of its immune boosting properties. This is the only real draw back to whey isolate as a supplement.
Protein is protein whether it is acquired through a supplemental or a traditional diet. Proteins are the building blocks that make up the physical form so the amount of protein that is required for an average person is very high. Even higher is the amount of protein that is required for strenuous and rigorous strength training. Adding protein isolate to any training diet is an essential way to ensure the body has the protein requirements that it needs to support strength training and muscle growth.
Whey isolate is much more expensive than whey concentrate and this factor plays a role in the popularity of the supplement. This doesn't necessarily mean that it is a better product and in fact, it isn't a superior product to whey concentrate. With the exception of those with lactose intolerant issues, there is no difference at all in providing the body with necessary protein support.
A strength or muscle training individual must eat protein rich foods six times a day. For the majority of people, this is not something that can feasibly fit into today's hectic schedules. Muscles that are being strengthened and trained require at least 25-50 grams of protein every three hours to grow and be strong. Isolate provides that protein requirement needed without the hassles of preparing a full meal. Incorporate whey isolate into your busy lifestyle today and take advantage of the ease in which you can boost your protein intake.
