Reading Glasses To Go
Suzanne Hughes
You know you are still young in mind body and spirit and want to make sure the eyeglasses you choose for the occasional quick read conveys this feeling as well. Don't despair; with the array of shapes, colors and materials available on the market today you should have no problem finding something to reflect your personal style.
First, what shape is the right shape? One general guideline makes it easy to narrow down your selection and find something that is not only fun but compliments your face shape. You never want to mirror the shape of your face in the shape of the frame that you choose. A round face wants an angular or oval shaped lens to offer contrast. Choosing a round shaped lens will only accentuate the roundness of circular shaped face and if this is not intentional it should be avoided.
To keep it simple, most faces can be categorized into one of four shapes. Round, Oval, Square, or triangle. Just look in the mirror and try to decide which of these shapes your face most resembles. Don't get too involved trying to decide your face shape, just use it as a general guideline. And don't get offended by the mirror if you disagree with your face shape, it is just a guideline. Then, look for eyeglasses that contrast that shape.
Second, color, how does one choose? If you stick close to the rules offered by make up artists it is hard to go wrong. Warm skin tones should stick with warm hues like orange, copper or red. Cool skin tones should stick to cool hues like rose, purple or silver. Likewise complimentary colors can accentuate ones eye color, an amber eye surrounded in purple frames would be stunning.
Finally, material, what makes a good reading glass? Most any material used can make a great pair of readers. In general there are two categories, plastics and metals.
Plastics are lightweight and available in a limitless variety of colors. They are often molded in the bridge area so not great for those individuals requiring a specialized fit over the nose. Metals have a tendency to be a bit heavier but are often more durable. Metal eyeglass frames are usually equipped with nosepads that are very easy to adjust for a more comfortable fit.
Frameless options look good on most everyone and are available with both plastic or metals temples and bridges. Frameless readers are definitely the most delicate but also the most lightweight and often the most comfortable option. There are also semi-rimless lenses that have a frame that only covers a portion of the lens, usually the top or the bottom. Semi-rimless glasses are also very lightweight but offer a little more durability than a full frameless style.
Simply keeping these three considerations in mind, shape, color and material, will make your shopping process easier and help assist you in finding a pair of glasses that truly reflects who you are.
