Pacing is a term which most of us have heard in association with people suffering from cardiovascular disease or in relation to exercise. Successful athletes know that there is a fine line between pushing themselves too hard or at the wrong time, and with failure to achieve their best. Pacing is a tool which we can all use to enhance our lives.
We can put this into effect by:
1.Setting ourselves personal objectives and realistic parameters.
2.Being aware when we are feeling drained rather than energised by what we are doing and modifying our behaviour.
3.Preparing ourselves .This can be in terms of mental preparation for anticipated tasks, contingency planning so that we have alternative ways of dealing with contingencies, and also physical preparation so that we are not doing everything at the last minute.
4.Delegating some tasks to other people.
5.Making sure that we take time for ourselves.
6.Being aware of what is important to us personally and acting on this as a priority.
7.Optimising physical and emotional well being by eating in a healthy manner.
8.Making sure we get enough sleep at night.
