Some Existing Misconceptions About Winter Skin Care
Chaand Sristy
People tend to believe that skin protection is not necessary in winter as it is not as sunny as summer time. This is not true, as the ice and snow can reflect a much higher percentage of UV rays as compared to other days. Studies have shown that up to 85% more of sun's harmful rays are reflected on to your body during winter. As such, make it mandatory that you apply a quality sunscreen with SPF content of 30 or more, half an hour prior to venturing out.
A significant percent of the people still believe that taking a hot shower is the quickest way to raise your body temperature, when your body is really cold. This is not a healthy habit as the blood flow on to your skin is not very good while it is very cold. In this condition, hot water falling on your skin can damage the skin surface and this may in turn cause skin problems. On the contrary, eating or drinking food items with lots of calories is very effective in raising your body temperature in a very short time. Exercising also can help you to raise your body temperature in a positive way. Hot drinks like coffee or tea can increase your body temperature within no time at all.
Another misconception people have is about the ability of gloves to protect your hands. Gloves alone are not enough as hands can become dry and cracked under them. You must apply a good moisturizer on your hand before putting the gloves on.
There are still some people who believe that chap sticks are worthless. They think that human saliva can do the same effect, and they resort to apply saliva on their lips by licking them routinely. All this can do is build up a layer of saliva on your lips which would keep them moist for a very short period of time before it gets dried up. Once the saliva is dry, your lips will feel even drier than otherwise. Applying a quality Chap Stick or lip balm with SPF content in it would be the best alternative to this. You should apply it regularly, when you are out in the cold winter weather. A shawl or a scarf can be used to protect your lips from chilly winds hitting your lips while out doors.
The common saying is that, ?Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?. This phrase defines the subjective nature of beauty to the full extent. As is the case of body weight explained above, people from different cultures tend to look at beauty from different viewpoints.
When it comes to religion, they give more weight to the inner beauty of the person. This usually refers to the character of the person more than his or her looks.
Beauty has mathematical properties too. Beautiful things are usually symmetric and proportional. The Greeks believed that the proportion of the features of any beautiful person must be as per golden ratio. Modern studies have proven that the Greeks ideas on beauty were correct.
