Body Thermage: Radiothermoplasty
Matt Oliver
What is Thermage?
Traditional Thermage gives you all the benefits of an invasive face-lift operation, with no scalpels or needles. This technology is now being used on problem areas of the body as well. Using ThermaCool TC with patented Capacitive Radio Frequency (CRF) technology, achieving younger-looking and healthier skin has never been easier or faster.
The system works by sending radio frequency energy through your skin, gently heating deep skin layers, while simultaneously protecting the surface of your skin with the cooling action of the patented ThermaTip “wand." This heating action causes deep structures of your skin to tighten immediately. Over time, new collagen grows to further tighten your skin and produce a more youthful appearance.
What areas can be treated with Thermage?
While Traditional Thermage techniques were developed to treat the skin around eyes, jaw lines, and necks, Body Thermage is now being used to treat numerous problem areas of the body, including:
-- Arms - Body Thermage can be used to tighten loose, sagging skin on the upper arms, as well as significantly improve the texture and tone of your skin.
-- Legs - Also improves texture and tone of skin in thighs as well as smoothing the skin above the knees.
-- Abdomen-- Body Thermage can drastically improve the look of your midsection and is comparable to a tummy tuck-- with no surgery required. Thermage also works exceedingly well for women who have recently given childbirth, left with stretch marks. However, any further pregnancies will obviously negate the treatment. Stretch marks or loose skin gained from excessive or rapid weight loss can also be significantly improved in the same manner.
Who is Body Thermage for?
Body Thermage is perfect for all skin types and skin colors. Individuals between 35 and 60 are the ideal candidates for Body Thermage due to the mild to moderate skin laxity found at those ages.
Who is Body Thermage NOT for?
Radiothermoplasty is not recommended for individuals with implanted cardiac devices, such as pacemakers. The radio frequency energy used during the Thermage procedure may interfere with these medical implants.
Body Thermage is not recommended for people using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID), such as ibuprofen, naproxen, and prednisone.
Is Radiothermoplasty safe?
Body Thermage was approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) in 2006.
The FDA approved the Thermage procedure in 2002, originally for the treatment of facial rejuvenation. In 2006 the FDA provided additional clearance for the extensive use of treatment anywhere on the body.
What are the side effects of Body Thermage?
The occurrence of any side effects as a result of Thermage treatment are exceptionally rare. In fact, the percentage of people who do complain about any unwanted side effects is at less than 1%. These temporary side-effects are usually described as red, irritated, or sometimes blistered skin and typically dissipate in 3-10 days.
