If you're looking for city-life, Atlanta is the place to visit. The city has been growing at a fast rate, and recently hosted the Olympic Games in 1996. The city hosts a variety of things to do, including pieces of American history and art work through the centuries. With a long list of attractions of the city, you're sure to have a great time.
When visiting Atlanta, it is hard to miss the High Museum of Art. The large, white structure is located on Peachtree, and hosts four levels of classic and contemporary art. Beginning on the ground floor and moving to the peak of the museums atrium, the art moves from the eighteenth and nineteenth century collections to modern, cutting edge art. The museum, which has expanded to 312,000 square feet, is also home to touring collections, including works by Norman Rockwell and Pablo Picasso. Admission is fifteen dollars for adults, twelve for students and seniors, ten for children ages six to seventeen, and free for children under five years old.
For a taste of history, visit Martine Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site. The site is located a few blocks outside of the downtown area of the city, in the Sweet Auburn neighborhood. This neighborhood is where the world famous Civil Rights leader was born. You can feel the city's deep history as you walk through Dr. King's childhood home. Feel your emotions twist and the nation's difficult struggle flow through you as you visit the Ebenezer Baptist Church to view his crypt. Tours are conducted daily on the hour, beginning at 10am.
Atlanta boasts a line of restaurants featuring American cooking. Try Fat Matt's Rib Shack. The spot is a local legend, and features award winning rips with hot barbecue sauce and delicious Brunswick strew. Live entertainment is featured nightly, as blues performers perform as you dine.
Another popular restaurant in the city is the Steamhouse Lounge. Sit on the deck and overlook the lively neighborhood as you dine on traditional seafood dishes. A variety of seafood is offered, such as lobster bisque, fish sandwiches, hot crustaceans and much more. Visit the Steamhouse Lounge and overlook the life of the city as you dine on fine seafood and catch up with friends.
A unique place to stay white in the city is the Omni Hotel at CNN Center. This fine hotel overlooks the Centennial Olympic Park, the Atrium Terrace and the Atlanta skyline. No matter which room you stay in, you'll have a breathtaking view. The hotel, with a beginning price of 139 dollars per night, is also connected to the Georgia World Congress Center and the Phillips Arena. Offered at the hotel is a hot tub, a jogging track, and indoor pool, heath club and many more services to ensure your satisfaction.
Atlanta is home to southern tradition mixed with modern attractions and historical sites. You can taste a piece of American history, gaze at beautiful art, and dine on good, traditional dishes while in the city.
If you are considering a cruise vacation, why not take an Alaskan cruise? There are plenty of advantages to choosing an Alaskan cruise. One of the most compelling reasons to choose Alaska over the Caribbean is the striking scenery.
Alaskan CruiseAlaska is home to incredible crystalline waters, majestic glaciers and beautiful fjords. Another part of Alaskan scenery is the wildlife, of course. Alaska is home to a variety of fascinating creatures like bald eagles, bear, deer, wolves, moose and more. Many of these animals can be seen right from the deck of your cruise ship.
Another highlight of most Alaskan cruises are the land excursions. Often, the ship will dock and you will be able to enjoy a variety of different activities. Popular excursions include things like guided hiking and boating tours as well as museum trips.
There are a variety of cultural stops in popular cities like Juneau and Anchorage that cater to cruise ship tourists. You will also find a variety of quaint souvenir shops selling a variety of locally made arts and crafts. After you're done exploring the landscape, you can return to the ship and prepare to head to your next stop.
In addition to the beautiful scenery and exciting excursions, you will find the majority of cruise ships very luxurious. One could easily spend their whole vacation on the ship! There are comfortable rooms and suites, dining establishments of all kinds, shops, on board activities and much more.
Most ships will feature fitness centers, spas, beauty salons and even live entertainment for you to enjoy. Examples of cruise lines that offer Alaskan cruises include Princess, Royal Caribbean and Holland America. Any one of these luxurious lines is an ideal choice for your Alaskan cruise.
