Should You Cave Explore Alone Or With Friends
Jiro Sosh
Cave exploring is rapidly becoming the image of ultimate adventure. It provides you with an exhilarating experience of the underground scenery. While it is a very hazardous activity, cave exploring organizations have mushroomed around the world in recent years; signifying growing interest among younger generations.
One of the fundamental decisions to be made by an adventure seeker is whether to go cave exploring alone or with a group. The answer to this may very well be a matter of life and death. Nonetheless, depending on your threshold for excitement and thrill, cave exploring alone or with a group is sure to give you a great time.
Cave exploring alone can be more challenging. You will be able to go about your exploration at your own pace and direction. You can start, take a breather here and there, and finish the activity as you like.
But exploring caves alone could increase the risks tenfold. This should never be attempted if you are relatively inexperienced in cave exploring. Besides, who is going to take your pictures inside the cave?
With the above considerations, it is best to go cave exploring in a group. Aside from being an equipment-dependent activity, cave exploring is very much susceptible to hazards that can only be corrected simply by having companions in the cave.
Imagine if you suddenly slipped inside the cave. You broke your ankle and can't walk. What do you do? Wait for your light source to die out or crawl your way out of the cave in excruciating pain?
Being in a group while cave exploring, you will have other people that are constantly mindful of your whereabouts. And if an accident or peril arises, other members of the group are readily available to provide needed assistance. Above all, as caves are often chilly and humid, dark and bleak, the risk of psychological breakdown caused by overwhelming fear can be held back by encouragements and comfort from members of the team. Now you can't try that if you are alone.
The rule of thumb is to go cave exploring in a team composed of at least four members. Of the four members, two should be experienced cave explorers. And there should be a leader in any cave exploration that is fully trained and qualified to manage all eventualities that may arise.
While the overall excitement potential and pace of a team of cave explorers is dependent on the least skilled explorer and thus some toes will definitely be stepped upon, so to speak; bringing a group is always the safest choice in cave exploring.
