Splendor Named Port Douglas

Port Douglas, has undergone a sea change in the last century, battered by cyclone in early 1900s, it came out of the shadow of a being a fishing village to emerge as a tourist destination by 1980s. All what Port Douglas became and is now, is thanks to the initiative taken by late Christopher Charles Skase, an Australian businessman.
Christopher Skase financed the construction of the world-class Sheraton Mirage hotel, this Port Douglas hotel was then among the largest in Australia and Skase played a key role in putting this small town on the international tourist map. Tourist to this Port Douglas hotel can take a short walk and reach Four Mile Beach, the main beach of the coastline of Port Douglas.
Port Douglas a beautiful town just north of Cairns, is now filled with exclusive, holiday resorts, golf course, marina and a selection of shopping boutiques. This is a haven for those who wish to explore nature's best with the Daintree, the Great Barrier Reef, Trinity Bay, Anzac Park, Ben Cropp's Shipwreck Museum and the northern rain forests of Cape Tribulation, tourists are spoilt for choices. For the adventuresome, they can go for diving or snorkeling or cruise to Michaelmas Cay, a small sand island on the Great Barrier Reef and enjoy breathtaking garden of exotic marine life, magnificent coral and giant clams.
Among the many distinguished personalities who have visited this island paradise include US President Bill Clinton and the First Lady, who chose this town as their only vacation stop on their historic visit to Australia. This apart an unfortunate incident happened in this island town, on September 2006, entertainer 'Crocodile Hunter' Steve Irwin died in a freak accident while filming a documentary.
There are many exclusive places on this little paradise, like, Saint Mary by Sea which is popular venue for weddings and the Hartley's Crocodile Adventures where tourists can watch guides feeding crocodiles. These apart there are many shops and restaurants which are mainly situated along Macrossan Street and are thronged by tourists.
There is a variety of accommodation including apartment, resort, hotels, motels and hostels. Port Douglas hotels offers best comfort and services. Tourists can easily get to any of the Port Douglas hotels either by car or by a catamaran between Cairns and Port Douglas.
