Port Douglas, has undergone a sea change in the last century, battered by cyclone in early 1900s, it came out of the shadow of a being a fishing village to emerge as a tourist destination by 1980s. Christopher Skase financed the construction of the world-class Sheraton Mirage hotel, this Port Douglas hotel was then among the largest in Australia and Skase played a key role in putting this small town on the international tourist map.
