Arthritis Dietary Supplements
Amy Clark
These days, Osteoarthritis or OA is a widespread condition that affect patients from all over the world. Osteoarthritis (OA) is especially common among older people, as well as among patients who suffer from excessive pressure on the joints, or back, knee, neck, and other joint injuries.
Another arthritis type, Rheumatoid Arthritis or RA, is somewhat rare, affecting only roughly one percent of patients worldwide. Regardless, it is said that we have encountered RA in 1 form or the other.
Fortunately, various nutritional supplements can now help patients alleviate the painful symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. What follows are certain nutritional supplements that have been proven effective in arthritis treatment:
Omega-3 fatty acids: These acids basically function as anti-inflammatories that will suppress the progression of rheumatic arthritis. These supplements have also been proven to treat the symptoms of osteoarthritis, and in some cases discontinue the need for NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
EPA/DHA: Sciencitific studies have revealed that 1,400mg of EPA per day plus 1,000 milligrams of DHA per day are effective in treating both osteoarthritis and rheumatic arthritis. The Super Omega-3 EPA/DHA is an especially powerful supplement, because it includes such components as Olive Fruit Extract and Sesame Lignans.
Curcumin: Curcumin is an anti-inflammatory taken from Tumeric that suppresses various harmful enzymes, ultimately treating the symptoms of RA and OA. However, nearly all forms of Curcumin do not have an adequate amount of Piperine, a black pepper component. As a consequence, those who use Curcumin do not obtain the adequate quantity they need for successful treatment.
SAMe (S-Adenosylmethionine): This is the activated form of a type of amino acid called methionine. Since it appears in an activated form, it is naturally transformed to cysteine in your body. In consequence, it has anti-oxidants that help combat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, as well as block destructive enzymes in the cartilage.
Chondroitin: Chondroitin sulphate, which comes from the articular cartilage, is responsible for cartilage development. Chondroitin as a supplement has been proven to be effective in restoring mobility and relieving pain, thus ultimately treating OA. In addition, it also prevents further damage to the joint caused by erosive OA.
Glucosamine: This is a natural product that is needed in joint cartilage formation. In OA cases, glucosamine synthesis is defective, consequently hampering cartilage growth. For this reason, taking a Glucosamine supplement will promote cartilage growth. Plus, Glucosamine is effective in RA treatment because it serves to reduce inflammation and protects the joints.
MSM (methyl sulfonylurea methane): The MSM molecule is found in certain tissues of the human body. It has the same sulphur used by our body’s structural molecules. Therefore, MSM works well in OA treatment.
Green Tea Compounds: Green tea compounds have been proven to be effective in blocking specific cytokines, consequently impeding osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis progression. Green tea also serves to treat inflammation.
Vitamin C: Full of important anti-oxidants, Vitamin C fights oxidative stress and eliminates harmful radicals. Subsequently, it curtails RA and OA symptoms. Because the human body does not naturally produce Vitamin C, it is very important that you get it from other sources.
Vitamin E: This vitamin is also a strong anti-oxidant that is not only fundamental in rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis treatment, but also in enhancing your everyday health and general wellbeing.
