London is situated on the river thames, in the south east of england.
In 1863, increasing traffic congestion on roads in city centre london led to the creation of the world's first metro system, the london underground.
The city was badly bombed while world war 2 & plenty lives were lost. after the war, plenty buildings in the city had to be rebuilt.
After world war two, immigration transformed London into one of the most culturally and racially diverse cities in Europe. Immigration wasn't always smooth, as there were massive race riots in brixton & notting hill, but intergration was certainly more smith than in other british regions.
Because its the capital of britain, London boasts the best museums in the country. One of the best is the Science Museum, which is in south kensington. The museum was formed in 1857 and has more than 300,000 exhibits, which include Puffing Billy and Stephenson's Rocket.
The city has plenty of fantastic galleries too, which include the National Portrait art gallery.
From quirky markets to designer shops, London boasts some amazing shops.
Oxford street is generally known as the best street for shopping in england. The street has topshop's well-known flagship shop, in addition to a huge Selfridges, which has been there since 1909. recently, a huge Primark shop opened on the street & its turned out very popular with shoppers.
London is renowned for its exclusive bars, nightclubs and theatres. One of the best known nightclubs is Fabric , which is in Leicester Square. This huge night club has a 1600 capacity and it attracts some huge name DJs, particularly on Fridays when it hosts its well-known Fabric Live event.
Another marvellous night club is Ministry of Sound, which is in Southwark.
There are 1000s of hotels, guest houses and b & bs in London, so there is accommodation to suit any budget. From well known names including the Hilton, the Dorchester and the Marriot, to cheap hostels, there is something for everyone.
