Im gonna tell you a story about a Trance DJ that goes by the name of DJ Jeopardy. Well ill cut to the chase, this tale you are reading is an autobiography. Yep, its true, I am DJ Jeopardy, and Im going to give you hints about how I get around 150K-250K song plays on Myspace and millions of profile views a week with only roughly 5 thousand friends on Myspace. Now im sure to a novice such as yourself this would sound crazy. But its true. And you can do it too. Ill put you through the steps.
STEP 1:
First check out my page to see proof that ive got millions of profile views and mass plays with soo few friends. You can view my page at www.myspace.com/deejayjeopardy.
STEP 2:
Now that you know and have seen proof that fame from nothing is achievable im going to give you my first hint/tip. Now be aware that I don't want anyone to compete with my level of so called ?fame? on Myspace, so I wont tell you specifically how to promote yourself or to a full extent of the method, or their may be some methods that ill just plain leave out. But read on for I will reveal some extremely helpful tips to you that you will surely not waste your time.
Submit your website to google, yahoo/AltaVista, and other main search engines. But wait, heres the key to doing so. Do a search on google for ?Mass Url Submission?. Don't waste your time on the software pages, they will try to say they are free but most of them really arnt and the ones that are, arnt very useful. You will get more out of finding sites that you fill in a form with your bands URL, key words/tags, and other bits of information, and the site will submit it to say 57 different search engines and search directories all with a click of a button.
Global Promote is a good example because it offers you 13 different submissions with a click of a button.
STEP 3:
Once you've submitted your URL to various search engines you should try making a music video or a promotional video and upload it into video blogs along with you tube. But video blogs like technorati are a very good source to get your site some hits. I will talk about blogs in the next step.
STEP 4:
A while ago I issued a Webzine on Myspace and I joined the web community of a site called ?Technorati?. This site is a database of blogs which attracts many viewers to your Myspace page. When I was writing articles for my webzine on Myspace, each article I wrote it updated it and put a link to it through technorati. I noticed a considerable number of blog views on my Myspace stat counter which means a lot of people went from my technorati account to my Myspace account. Now I bet your thinking? ?but im a musician, not a webzine?. If you want an extra 15-100 views in your Myspace blog per blog post (which could in turn lead to profile views/song plays) then write about your current album. Or say you're in a punk rock band, write a blog about how the punk scene has changed over the years. Just an idea.
STEP 5:
Start a bulletin campaign. I don't remember the sites off hand but if you search for ?Myspace band player code? there is a way to get the HTML code to post your song player. In bulletins which will gain you more song plays. Center everything, write a little text in there (greetings, news w/e) and be sure to at the bottom of the bulletin write ?Please Hit ?Reply to Poster? to gather the code to repost this. Your support is greatly appreciated? Perfect the bulletin just how you like it then save the code in a word document. Post frequently through out the day but be sure to delete the older bulletins so you arnt spamming everyone.
STEP 6:
Trade Links. Talk to buddies, bands you tour with, friends on Myspace or maybe other webpages outside of Myspace, and add in a ?friends? or ?Links? section somewhere on your page dedicated to links of others who have you linked to your page in return. Not only does this create an opportunity for more profile views, this also increases SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
STEP 7:
Start a local campaign. If you live in a city where there is a lot of people go out every Friday night and pass out business cards with your Myspace URL on it. Have band merch? Add your Myspace URL onto your merch. Still high school or college? Post flyers around your campus. Most banks and professional businesses have billboards. You can post a business card on a billboard or ?pull tabs? with your url on them. Other places, less professional, such as gas stations, subways, pizza places usually let you put a stack of flyers on their counter for people to grab. Be sure to ask their approval first wherever you go to promote. And hey? don't be shy. If you get turned down to advertise at a place of business its not the end of the world. It doesn't take too much time, and it can help out considerably.
STEP 8:
Web services that help get your name out. Im just gonna give a short list of things that ive come across.
sonic bids- an extremely useful tool that links musicians to promoters, musicians to radio branches, and musicians to booking agencys, and other helpful services. I feel this is a very helpful service for an extremely reasonable price.
Tons of adds- a website that you can purchase VIP front page featuring. Which puts a photo link to your Myspace ?add url?, getting you mass profile adds. Perfect for bands just starting out. Bands with only 1 friend (tom) get around 1k-2k adds. Bands with around 1k friends get around 500-1k friends bands with 2k and up friends varies.
Radio-Locator- Perfect if you have a ton of spare time and want to be featured on the radio. This radio search engine finds radio stations locally, globally, and even has an option to search web streaming radio stations only. This service gives a description of how wide spread the radio stations radius is, how well their signal is, as well as a link to their site if they have one (most do). If you get lucky a local radio station may have free song submission, where if afterward approved then you can call in and request your song on air.
STEP 9:
Technologize your strategy. There are tons of helpful softwares out there that can help. ?Automated Friend Adding? ?auto link submission softwares? and ?Chat Bots? just to name a few.
STEP 10:
Get the word out. Find some different chat rooms and drop your URL in there. Youll find there are many different approaches and catchy ways to get people to view your profile. You Just got to discover which ways those are.
And there you have it. 10 Steps that can make you famous if you work at it. I know its a lot to take it but read it over a couple times, book mark this article, do what you got to do, and do it piece by piece, and step by step. The steps don't have to necessarily be done in order, but as long as your working on one thing at a time you should do fine.
