Many cultures know the benefits of Kombucha tea. In some parts of Asia a starter was given as a wedding present to the new bride for health and wellness for her new household. Kombucha tea is known for its healthy restorative properties.
Growing Kombucha is easy, and starts with a piece of Kombucha. Thoroughly clean a gallon ceramic or glass jar, and add to it a tea mix made from two liters of boiling water, one cup of sugar, and 4 tea bags. Let the tea bags sit in the water as it naturally cools to room temperature. You are then ready to add your Kombucha start along with one cup of the fermented Kombucha brew.
Make sure your hands are clean, and then clean them further with a little bit of the fermented tea to bring a good PH balance to your hands. Don't allow your Kombucha start to touch metal, either. Simply add your Kombucha start, cover the container with a paper towel rubber banded in place, and leave your tea blend in a cool dark place.
It takes about a week for the Kombucha blend to ferment, and after seven to ten days you can take out all but a cup of the liquid. Replace this liquid with freshly made tea with sugar added and let the Kombucha mushroom work its magic. Bottle your brew, and store it in the fridge. You may need to strain the brew prior to drinking to remove any new mushrooms that are forming.
With your new batch of Kombucha tea ready to drink it is recommended that you start slowly. Drink about a quarter cup in the morning and the evening. You can increase this amount as you feel comfortable. This tea is very good for your digestion and is very calming as well.
Eventually you will need to clean your Kombucha jar to take out the sediment and thin out the mushroom population. Don't toss out that old mushroom, bury it under a tree or in the garden for a great nutritional boost.
Perhaps your friends may like a start of Kombucha. Just take the extra layers, after washing your hands of course, and put them in a clean jar with about a cup of the fermented tea. Share with them the basics of growing your own Kombucha tea, and everyone will appreciate this delicious healthy drink!
