Induced menopause occurs when ovaries stop functioning or when a woman has her ovaries surgically removed as a result of chemotherapy, drug therapy, radiation or other medical treatments. It can happen at any age as it is the result of unexpected physical conditions or deliberate health decisions such as surgery or chemotherapy.

As the onset of induced menopause always abrupt, there will be no gradual adjustment period to prepare for post menopausal changes. Some women who have removed both ovaries surgically may experience dramatic and abrupt menopausal symptoms.
