The Secret On How Kids Should Handle Money
Alix Montoya
These days, more and more kids are falling for marketing tactics that encourage them to spend more of their money on things that they see everywhere. Expensive clothes and hi-tech gadgets are just some of the things that you'd find on every other kids' wish list. In fact, the percentage of teenage consumers seem to be increasing every passing day.
You can protect them and their, or your, money from these pigs. How? By teaching them all about handling money responsibly. These days, parents are underestimating the power of being a parent, but you can actually teach them a few lessons handling cash, and probably some in life, just by following some of these few simple steps.
Money is earned. Show your kids that money is not something that they easily get and therefore take for granted. You can do so by letting them handle jobs on their own. If your children are old enough, suggest a job for them or even help them open up a new business for themselves, probably in craft shows in your state of Nebraska. This is a great way for them to value hard earned cash.
Another idea is that you can ask your child to save some of the money he or she makes. You can suggest opening a bank account to them and tell them that they can save a portion of their money there. Explain to them interest rates and other things that they might see as advantageous when opening up a bank account.
Include your kids when you're handling the household budget. Show them how much money goes to where and why. This makes them feel more involved in family decisions and makes them more mature and responsible when handling their own money. It also teaches them how great it is to have a budget and to know exactly where some of their money might be needed and being prepared for anything.
There are still other useful ideas out there which you can use in order to make money lessons more memorable for your kids. You have to make sure that these lessons are as fun as playtime otherwise, they probably won't show any interest in it.
