Do you think there is no way to setup a trampoline in your yard due to uneven or un-level ground? Is your trampoline currently leaning or out of level? I hope to provide you with a couple of ideas on how to solve the issues surrounding trampolines and elevation changes in yards.
First, try to create a level place in your yard. You will either need to add or remove some soil. If you plan on removing earth, you will need a shovel. For yards with steep hills, you will probably need to rent a Caterpillar or another small excavating digger.
Before starting excavation there are a number of things you must do. You will need to purchase a string level, they are found at any hardware store. To use it, place two stakes in the ground around the area you plan to level then run a string between them. You will need someone to help place the level between the stakes. Finally, move the string up or down until the bubble in the level is between the lines.
Great! You can now use a stick to make sure the ground is now completely level. To do this, mark the stick as you move it different places along the line. If the mark is above the string, you will need to remove more of the earth around the area. If the mark is below the string, you will need to replace the dirt.
You will want to then rotate the string several times to ensure that the entire area in which you want to place your trampoline is level. Use a rake to complete the fine leveling of your area. You will also want to use a tamper to compact the dirt and ensure that your trampoline won't just sink into the ground. This is possible if you have added dirt and the ground is now soft, the tamper will compact the dirt so you can add more if necessary.
If you are worried about your trampoline corroding, you may opt to build a retaining wall. You will be able to find interlocking blocks at your local lawn and garden store. While at the store, look for a trampoline safety net, this will prevent injury from falling off the trampoline.
If excavation is not an option, you can opt to build foothills. You will need to decide how permanent you want your trampoline. NOTE: anything built must be sturdy enough for the intended load it is going to hold. People will be jumping on your trampoline, it must be safe.
I would suggest you build the footings out of cinder blocks and fill the footing with sand or dirt. Once you have built your footings and placed your trampoline on top of them you will want to use stakes to secure the trampoline to the footings so that no slippage occurs.
No matter which option you choose please make sure that you keep safety in mind at all times. A trampoline is great fun and great exercise. Making sure that you provide a level environment for your trampoline will ensure that it is maintained in proper condition for many years to come. If you set your trampoline on uneven ground, you could cause your trampoline undue stress and failure could occur. Happy jumping!
