6 Reasons Why You Get Adult Acne
David Lam
Adult acne can be a problem no matter you are adult or teenage. The psychological impact of acne can impact your daily life such as social events and dating. Even mild cases of acne can leave a person with a negative self-image that can cause someone to miss out an opportunities and relationships that otherwise they might have explored.
Adult acne is totally different from teenage acne. The breakouts are usually mild to moderate but the blackheads and whiteheads are less commonly seen on the face. Below are 6 factors that cause acne breakouts:
Fluctuating Hormones
Adult acne is normally associated with the hormonal swings of puberty. But it can flare when hormones fluctuate. Some women get it as a result of hormonal swings during pregnancy and menopause.
Discontinuing Birth Control Pills
For some women, they might get acne once they stop taking birth control pills, which mean the pills may have been keeping their acne at bay. We know that hormonal unbalance can cause acne breakouts, so taking birth control pills might have cleared up your skin. Your acne is properly recurs if you stop taking birth control pills.
Taking Certain Medications
Some pills like birth control pills which contain estrogen and progestin, often help control acne in women. It might get worse if a birth control pill contains only progestin. Never stop taking a prescription medication because acne develops or worsens.
Side Effect of Other Medications
There are some side effects of taking medication like anti-convulsants, corticosteroids, and sobriety drugs. If you stop taking a prescription medication, it can cause your adult acne to be worse. If you having this kind of problem, you need to talk with the dermatologist who prescribed the medication and ask for other medication that will not cause acne to flare.
Stress
Some studies showed that stress may trigger adult acne in women. There is a relationship between increased stress levels and higher levels of acne in women with fast-paced careers. In response to stress, the body produces more androgens that stimulate the oil glands and hair follicles in the skin. When over-stimulated such as during times of stress, acne can flare.
Products Used On Hair and Skin
Products such as oily sunscreens and hair greases promote a type of acne called acne cosmetica. To less likely to cause adult acne, make sure the products are labeled "non-comedogenic" or "non-acnegenic" when buying. This means that they are less likely to cause acne.
There are many other reasons such as environment and the products you use on your skin and in your home, that cause adult acne. You have to discuss with your dermatologist or doctor to find out what should you do to minimize the occurrences of acne on your skin. Effective adult acne treatment is available and your condition can improve no matter you have rather mild or severe acne.
