Clicks But No Sales - How Come?
Stu Mclaren
Someone recently asked me the following; I have referred over 25 people through my link to an affiliate product I am promoting. The problem is, I haven't made any sales. Am I doing something wrong? I thought that the answer I gave would benefit more than just the person who asked it. That is why I am sharing it with you today.
Conversions for any product will always depend on a variety of things such as the copy of the salesletter, the way the product is positioned as well as things like bonuses, guarantees and the call to action.
With that in mind it's important to note that it often takes more than 25 clicks to any one product in order to generate sales. The reasoning behind this is that the type of traffic that is being sent there will greatly influence the number of sales.
For example, if 40 cat lovers clicked through to a dog training website, the likelihood of any sales being made would be next to zero. That's why my biggest piece of advice for any affiliate would be to focus on the quality of the traffic you are sending.
You want to make sure that the people you are promoting to fit the target market for the product. Then you want to position the product so that it hits the hot buttons of that market.
- What are their biggest challenges? Frustrations?
- What are their desires?
- What does your market want? (ex. free time, more money, more influence etc.)
These are the types of questions that you want to answer because it will get you in the mind of the person you are promoting to. It helps you better position the products you are promoting and as such, the traffic you send will be much more targeted (this is assuming that you are promoting to people that are somewhat targeted for this type of offer).
Finally, it's important to note that it typically takes at least 100-200 clicks (if not more) to any one product before you can drill deeper to find any significant problem with the actual promotion. This number of clicks will give the proper amount of data that you'll need in order to make a sound judgment.
But first, always start with the market and make sure that the people you are promoting to are targeted to what you are offering. Then focus on the way you have positioned the product.
