Ask anybody who has decided to own an Eclectus parrot and they will probably tell you that when they started to discuss this with other people they heard many a story which in time has proved to be untrue about these birds. If you have thought about owning an Eclectus parrot, then you may well have read or heard many good things about these birds and you may have wondered to yourself is this too good to be true? I can assure you that the good things you hear are true, because these are delightful pets to own.

How long will an Eclectus parrot live for? Some people say only eight to ten years, but this is only true of an uncared for bird. A healthy parrot can live anywhere up to fifty years.

As long as you feed your parrot correctly, you will never be able to say that they are anything other than interesting pets to own. An undernourished bird can be a bit dull and boring, but as long as to pay particular care to their dietary needs then this will not be the case with you bird.

For the same reason, many people believe that the Eclectus parrots health is fragile. This isn't true at all. In fact, the Eclectus parrot is one of the healthiest captive birds in existence. They seldom get ill, and if they do, it is usually because they are not getting the proper nutrition.

Still today, some owners of Eclectus parrots do not realise that these bird require much more than just bird seed and pellets. They need a balanced diet of fruits, grains, vegetables as well as seeds.

Now and again you will hear it said that these birds have a behaviour problem, but once again, this is usually due to them not getting the right nutrition. Feed them right and you will not have any problems with behaviour.

Another myth that you will hear is that these birds do not talk very well, but again, this just is not true. As long as you are prepared to spend some time with your parrot, then you will soon discover just how good they are at talking, and singing, and making various sound effects.

In the future, if you hear negative things about Eclectus parrots, make it a point to find out for sure whether the information is true. The greatest source of information is a breeder with years of experience.
