Food manufacturers have been quick to jump on the health bandwagon and started to produce more and more high fiber cereals, based on these studies. It was a very good development because now everyone can find a healthy cereal that fits their taste buds. The highest fiber cereals still have some taste issues but there are many cereals with adequately high fiber that have great taste.
The bran type cereals are the ones that contain the most fiber. Name that come to mind include 100% Bran, All Bran, and Fiber One. Cereals like Grape Nuts, Raisin Bran, and Kashi are not as high in fiber but certainly make up for the decreased fiber with taste. A person who wants to eat high fiber cereals needs to learn to read the nutrition labels on the cereal boxes to find cereals that they enjoy eating but are also high fiber.
It's always a good idea to compare a product with one of the heavy fiber products. That way you know how much real fiber it contains. Sometimes the product packaging can be deceptive, and the product might not contain as much fiber as you think. The only way the consumer can identify these cereals for themselves is to read the nutritional labels.
If you cannot find a cereal product that you like in the store, you can always make your own. The way to do this is to make a mix of cereals. Using a plastic cereal container, cereals such as frosted flakes and fruit loops can be mixed with one of the whole grain high fiber cereals. Adding nuts and dried fruit is another way of adding taste to an otherwise dull cereal.
You can eat healthy more consistently if you're also enjoying your food. Some dried fruits, such as apricots, raisins, and prunes, can be very high in fiber. Adding nuts to your cereal will also increase the fiber content. Breakfast can be very tasteful and very healthy with a small bit of creativity.
