In my last article, I provided five good reasons to trade in my law license for a network marketing business: freedom of time, earning potential, residual income, tax benefits and the lack of barriers to success. Those reasons, however, apply equally to any lawyer who works hard for someone else in the hope of attaining financial freedom. Here are five more reasons, personal to me, why I left the law for a home-based, network marketing business in the health and wellness field.

Win-Win: Class action litigation was extremely adversarial. Millions of dollars were at play each time a plaintiff's attorney pulled the handle of the litigation slot machine hoping to produce three gold bars. The object was to win or, conversely, not to lose. Network marketing, however, is a win-win paradigm. Its very structure creates a process whereby those who help others to achieve their personal best are also those with the greatest personal success. True network marketing protocol promotes everyone's growth and expansion without ever diminishing another's success. It is not only a great way of doing business, it is a great way of being.

Purpose: Although satisfying to successfully defend a worthy company from often baseless litigation, it was not ultimately fulfilling. Saving the corporate bacon did not seem to make me a better person or to make a difference to the world at large. Now my days are spent helping people discover a means to better their health and increase their wealth, the two most sought after goals of those with whom I talk. It feels good, and I know I am making a difference in the world, one person at a time.

Finding Ease: No more corporate clothes...a comfortable pair of jeans is my typical business attire. Nor more searching for an "opportune time" to take a vacation. Anytime is a good time, if it fits with my desired plans. No more commute to work. With a web-based business, I can work from home or from the cabin or from the other side of the world, for that matter. I have no particular location at which I must be. I am no place and everywhere all at once, with potential associates worldwide. Being my own boss, I am learning to work hard with ease...a welcome oxymoron.

Connection: Network marketing is built upon relationships. It requires "being with" people: that is, listening carefully to what they have to say, hearing their unspoken fears and concerns and understanding their points of view. Consequently, it also requires being in the moment, giving up strategizing the next response while conversing. I have learned that true connection with others does not come from the head but rather from the heart, as tempered by the head. Connection with others is much more readily achieved for me when I am not standing as an attorney between those who really need to communicate. I can now go direct.

Growth: Twenty years as a litigator eventually created a known "comfort zone" of discomfort that I lived with day to day. By stepping into network marketing, I was stretched in ways I had not anticipated. I was required to come to terms with the "what would people think" syndrome, during which time I was challenged to reassess what was truly important to me and why. I contemplated anew terms like courage, discipline, commitment and purpose and whether I was willing to pay the price of change. Change became the springboard not only for a new career but also for a new way of being.

I have not looked back.
