Clearance Clear Water Revival
Rachel Yoshida
There are so many ways that you can conserve water in your home it is silly not to make a habit of at least a few of them. Keep these things in mind for future summers when there are droughts and your entire community is suffering due to a lack of water, but practicing them every day can save you a ton on your water bill every month.
One thing that you can do that serves two purposes is never drink water straight out of your tap, since this typically contains an amount of fluoride that is several times more than what you need to be healthy and at least some of the water will end up going down the drain. Keep bottled water in the refrigerator to drink when you want a glass of water instead of using the water out of the tap.
Try to run your washing machine and your dishwasher only when they are full, since you will often end up doing a lot more loads of clothes and dishes than normal. This will also save you electricity, since it takes just as much electricity to run a full load as it does a half load.
If you have to water your lawn, try to do it in the early morning instead of midday, since the water will take longer to evaporate. It will also not burn the leaves of grass. Something else you can do when you water your lawn is use a sprinkler system for large areas and water smaller areas by hand to avoid waste.
If you use water to rinse your produce after you bring it home from the grocery store, you can re-use it to water your house plants.
Leaky pipes indoors are easier to notice, but you can also have water leaks outside the house. Be sure to check for these every so often and repair them as necessary.
Many countries in Europe have adopted low-volume toilets as being mandatory by law. They are not currently mandatory in the United States, but sometimes it is okay to follow the example of the folks from across the pond. Another thing you can do to save water in the toilet is put food coloring into the tank. If it makes its way into the toilet bowl, then you have a leak.
When running your bath water, make sure it is plugged first and then adjust the temperature as necessary as it fills.
Using only one glass a day for what you drink will reduce the number of times you have to run the dishwasher, as well.
