Club Alianza Lima Peru
Douglas Scott
Lima was originally founded by the Spanish Conquistadors, and was the main South American city for at least three hundred years whilst they held their positions of power. Although other cities amongst the South American countries have taken prominence, Lima is still Perus focal point, with almost a third of the countries population living within it.
Lima is surrounded by many beautiful beach resorts, and the weather is surprisingly pleasant all year, with temperatures ranging from 26 in February to 19 in August, with little or no rainfall.
Miraflores is the turistic district of Lima. The main hotels are located in this nice city by the Pacific Ocean. During the last years, there have been developments of a huge offer of amenities.
Barranco district was founded in 1874. Its the smallest district of Lima and was always an attractive summer resort for middle and upper class residents of Lima and foreigners.
Plaza de Armas, Palace of Government , cathedral, very antique streets in the colonial zone, many of them still have beautiful balconies and then will continue to the modern and residential districts of San Isidro and Miraflores, where you will observe the Pacific Ocean.
Once considered the heart of old Lima, this grand plaza features many important architectural monuments and buildings including a magnificent bronze fountain dating from 1650, the Archbishops Palace with its elegant balconies and the Government Palace dating from 1924.
The catacombs at the Monasterio de San Francisco are suitably creepy. Used as Lima's cemetery until 1810, they still house thousands of skulls and bones, all sorted according to type. The underground tunnels also include a number of wells where bodies were stacked to decompose until the bones could be placed elsewhere. Visitors can tour the catacombs and visit the monastery, which has a collection of religious art and a 17th century library.
This museum houses an impressive collection of ceramics plus exhibits of mummies, a gold room, textiles made from feathers and a unique collection of pre Columbian erotica depicting the sexual practices of a number of Peruvian cultures.
Have a great trip and enjoy yourself.
