Viral marketing is an advertising technique which is used to make public awareness about ones company, product etc. Although there are number of ways to approach this the most powerful way of marketing in modern era is through the internet.

In its essence viral marketing means marketing which has gone viral or marketing this is spreading like a virus. This form of marketing is the most powerful ways of communicating your business model to consumers.

You might be wondering how this is possible especially in this modern era of fierce competition. I will explain this further with an example. Although this concept can be applied to anything from selling softwares, e-books, physical products, lets assume for a moment that you have a shop selling DVD players- This is your niche in the electronic market. Now using three steps you can actually market your product.

Firstly, Write a 20 page honest, comprehensive e-book explaining to the layman the do’s and don’ts of buying a DVD player i.e. what to look for when buying a DVD player, what price range to expect, what is required from a DVD player on a day to day bases and how much importance should be given to the specifications of a player. Put a contact name and number and your shops name on the title page. Do not put a price on this and distribute it FREE from a site or blog.

Secondly, register with forums and highly ranked article directories. In forums contribute sincerely and honestly to discussions related to your niche. I am presuming that as this is your niche you must be authority in this. Make sure you that in your signature, there is a link to your site or the download page to your e-book. This is important not only for forum readers but for people searching the internet who will come across your posts and then eventually download you free e-book and why should they not- its free and its free valuable information. This will benefit the consumer and will not only raise your credibility but increase exposure to your shop.

Thirdly, write one good article on your niche related topic for e.g. the do’s and don’ts of buying DVD players. Distribute this to highly ranked article directories and in you autho bios leave a link to your site where people can download your free e-book, thus increasing more exposure to your business.

These three steps do not take very long but once done they result in a self propagating marketing model which is referred to as viral marketing. With time you will develop authority in your niche, your free e-book will be passed around from consumer to consumer hence resulting in more exposure, more sales and more authority.
