At some point in our lives, many of us are called upon to help organize an event, either for business or private functions. A select few do it as their job, but most of us have little training or experience when we are asked to help set-up an event ? or do it entirely on our own. Fortunately, there is someone you can call to help with every aspect of your event ? and you need to call them anyway. They are event caterers.
Event catering is a changing role. Traditionally, providing the food for an event is all event caterers did. As an event planner, using the yellow pages or word-of-mouth, you would need to find a caterer; a venue for the event; come up with decorations and/or a theme; get enough tables, chairs and dinnerware for your guests; and find a photographer, DJ and/or entertainment as needed. Those were just the basics and don't include guest lists, invitations and any of the seemingly hundreds of other details that are needed for any event.
The one thing that was constant was the catering. Regardless of the size and scope of your event, from a small business gathering, to a large traditional wedding, food was always needed and was the most important part of the event. Depending on the caterer you chose, it could be the difference between a successful and not so successful event.
Fortunately for event planners, both full-time and one-time, event catering services understood that, if planners needed to call them anyway, caterers could provide extra services beyond just supplying the food. The result is the transition of many event catering services into one-stop event planning services, which makes your life as an event planner much easier.
Now you have the choice. You could plan and organize your event the traditional way, by researching, calling and visiting different suppliers; or, you can find an event caterer that is able to help you with all, or at least some, of the other details of your event.
There isn't any right way or wrong way, just whichever way you prefer. If you have planned an event before, you might already have preferred suppliers whom you trust, which is all even the best event planners can ask for. However, if you feel like you could use a little help, or don't have the time to call around, event caterers are a great one-stop solution.
When you choose a caterer to help with other parts of your event, remember, they want to keep you as a customer, so they will make sure that you will be satisfied with any service they provide. In a way, it takes a little of the guesswork out of some of the choices you might need to make. If you don't know anything about DJs or bands, it might be difficult for you to find one that is right for your event. A caterer deals with many different types of event entertainment and should be able to recommend and supply the best one for your party.
Another advantage that today's event planners have is that they can research event catering on the internet. Indeed, if any of the caterers in which you are interested do not have a proper web site, complete with a variety of menus, listings of services and at least some prices, then you need to wonder why ? and probably move on to another caterer.
While it might be easier to find a catering company to help with your event, remember, it's all about the food. Tastes have changed, especially in a cosmopolitan city like Toronto, and the traditional ?meat and vegetable? choices aren't enough any more. You need a catering company that is able to provide a variety of high quality, healthy foods that are suitable for different cultures, lifestyles and seasons.
The good thing is, when you find the right catering company, one that provides delicious and healthy meals and can help with other parts of your event, then the rest of your event planning is going to be easy.
