After the shocking death of Donda West, 58, following Los Angeles liposuction, tummy tuck, and breast reduction procedures lawmakers not only in California, but all over the U.S. and elsewhere, are pushing for new laws which may prevent accidental deaths in such Los Angeles plastic surgery procedures. One such law, known as SB 1454, would require outpatient facilities to be inspected at least once every three years.

Many facilities in which Los Angeles cosmetic surgeons practice are not up to standards. They must be accredited by a state-recognized agency, but current California laws do not require regular inspections.

Assemblywoman Wilmer Amina Carter said Donda West's niece asked her to introduce a bill requiring a health check before a person chooses to have cosmetic surgery. She introduced the "Donda West Law" in February.

Donda West had been sent home following her 51/2-hour surgery. A coroner's autopsy report found that West most likely died of heart disease coupled with complications after plastic surgery. But, it said the exact cause of death couldn't be known.

Dr. Jan Adams, who operated on West, has denied any wrongdoing.
