Make Strategic, Purposeful Actions A Habit
Weston Lyon
While there are lots of reasons, one big reason is, I know where every second of my time is spent. Every moment is strategic and purposeful.
If you want to get more done in less time, you have to know where YOUR time is spent. Here are the 4 Dimensions of Time and how you can utilize them to get more done in less time, while having fun:
1. Dimension of Distraction
You're in the Dimension of Distraction when you're performing activities that are neither important nor urgent. You're just doing them to distract yourself from real life.
Some examples are watching TV, reading the newspaper, and surfing the web. While these activities may be done with purpose (i.e. research, relaxation), they are typically not.
They are activities we do and like. The important distinction though is, are you in the Dimension of Distraction on purpose, or are you in this dimension because you're trying to space out?
Your time is too important to space out...you won't get that time back. Instead, decide when your distraction time (time away from "real" life) is and don't allow it to be accidental.
2. Dimension of Delusion
You're in the Dimension of Delusion when you're performing activities that are not important, but are urgent...at least you think they're urgent.
Some examples are checking e-mail, answering the phone, and meeting with someone last minute. Again, while these activities may be done with purpose behind them, most are not.
They are activities that you must realize need be done, but not necessarily right now. There is a time and place for each one, but you decide when. Don't let them control you...you control them!
3. Dimension of Demand
You're in the Dimension of Demand when you're performing activities that are important AND urgent. They are important to you and need done immediately.
Some examples are staying home with a sick child, catering to an injured employee, and finishing last-minute tasks. These activities are a little different because you cannot plan for them. They happen and need dealt with NOW.
The trick, though, is to prepare for the worst. Think of everything that can go wrong and have a back up plan for it. You know "stuff" happens...prepare for it as best you can.
4. Dimension of Divine-Action
You're in the Dimension of Divine-Action when you're performing activities that are important and not urgent. Most people put off and postpone these activities, unfortunately, because they are trapped in the other dimensions.
Some examples are writing a book, relaxing with loved ones, and exercising. These activities are very important to your life and wellbeing, but are not urgent enough to grab your attention sometimes. Though it's a mistake to deprive your self of this dimension, it's the first dimension to suffer neglect.
The Dimension of Divine-Action is the dimension you should spend most of your time. It should consist of 60-70% of your week. Most people don't, purposely, spend even 20% there...sad, but true.
You will spend every moment of your life in these four dimensions of time. They are neither good nor bad. They just are. It's up to you, though, to decide if you're going to spend the majority of your life in delusion or distraction; demand or divine-action.
Be strategic and purposeful with your time and you too can get more done in less time, while enjoying every second of your wonderful life!
