The ABC's Of Improving Infertility With Vitamins
Randy Beckett
I have been doing some research on dietary supplements and various illnesses. During this investigation I began to look at the results of vitamins and the effect that they have on infertility. For those of you who are suffering with ovulatory infertility there is some really strong evidence that a proper diet and dietary supplements can boost your reproductive system and increase fertility.
The ABC Vitamins are what I call the core group of dietary supplements needed to turbo boost your reproductive system. I have provided just a small sample of what these vitamins can do for you.
Vitamin A:
* For women it promotes an increase in cervical fluid.
* Vitamin A is by far the most important supplement for a woman to increase fertility.
* Purified fish oil is very high in vitamin A & D.
Vitamin B:
* For men B12 can increase mobility and balance testosterone.
* Both B12 & B6 for women improves fertility.
Vitamin C:
* For men it increases sperm quality and mobility.
* For men vitamin C has shown a reduction in DNA damage in sperm by 91%.
* For women it reduces the chance of miscarriage and improves the birth experience.
* Women should avoid large doses of vitamin C due to its adverse effect on cervical fluid.
* The amount in a prenatal vitamin is sufficient. * Filter out the nicotine from smoking
Vitamin D: (93% of women with infertility are deficient in Vitamin D)
* PCOS has been corrected with vitamin D and calcium
* Supports the production of estrogen in women and men
* Improved ovulation
Vitamin E:
* For women vitamin E can improve the quality of the egg.
* For men vitamin E can improve sperm potency by 2.5 times.
* Studies that show 200 IU - 400 IU for females and 100 IU - 200 IU for males improves fertility. * Studies show infertile men using vitamin E leads to 20% pregnancy rate. Dose was 400 iu to 800 iu.
* For men with low testosterone zinc has shown to improve sperm count.
* Anemia can cause infertility. I0-20 mg/day
* Note: if you take iron you should also take a mild laxative such as Collace or PeriCollace to prevent constipation.
Folic Acid:
* May prevent neural tube defects, other birth defects and protects your heart.
Evidently a healthy heart also means a healthy reproductive system. These supplements are normally recommended for use in improving heart function. However, there are a number of studies that show an improvement in both men and women fertility when they add these dietary supplements. They seem to improve both the health of the egg and the productivity of the sperm.
They are:
* L-Arginine
* EFA: Fish Oil and Flax See Oil
* L-Carnitine * Co-enzyme-Q10
What we find here is that a normal fertility function requires the proper levels of vitamins in our system. Various vitamin deficiencies may be sabotaging your attempt to get pregnant.
As always, check with your physician before adding anything new to your lifestyle so that you may receive a proper medical evaluation before beginning. Your doctor will want to check your blood level for vitamin deficiency, liver and kidney function and any other issues that the physician may be concerned about your health.
