Only those who have used the document drying before would know how useful this process is in restoring the water damaged papers and documents. It is also observed that when people when threatened by water soaked valuable documents rush to get more information on drying procedure. The thing is most of them consciously ignore to lend ears to document drying as they mistake it to be something not meant for them.

Take an absorbent paper napkin or tissue paper and leave it inside the damp pages. The interleaves absorb the excess moisture from the wet books readily. The interleaves should be removed once they are loaded with water and replace it fresh paper towels.

Once the water is fully extracted from each and every page in the book, leave it undisturbed with some weight over it. This should be done after closing the book and removing all the interleaves. The weight is kept to make sure that all the pages remain intact and the book does not go disfigured.

The above mentioned document drying method was for air drying books and magazines. If you want to dry loose wet documents, then spread them on paper towels or some other absorbent surface in small number. Do not overcrowd the towel with wet documents and see to it that there is enough air circulation. The documents should be turned upside down and dried on both sides. This air drying method works only for small volume.

If a library gets flooded with water and the huge volume of books are wet, then sophisticated document drying techniques and dehumidifiers are used for faster results. Though this document drying process is expensive, it is worth shelling out money if the documents are really important and you cannot afford to lose it.
