So Many Differences In Multi Spindle Screw Machines
Andy West
Multi spindle screw machines are a major part of the manufacturing process. They are similar to a lathe and are typically automated. They are specifically used to manufacture turned components at a high volume. They not only save time when it comes to producing products, but they also save money as well. These specific machines are purportedly the most cost effective when it comes to high volume production of turned components. Oftentimes they require extensive set-up time and effort, but once the machine is up and running it only takes one operator to oversee the operation of several of the machines. Consequently this is a cost savings for the company because not as many operators are needed to run the apparatus.
Screw machines are made up of spindles that contain bars of materials that are operation at the same time. The number of spindles on a screw machine ranges depending on the configuration. There are some that are made up of single spindles and there are others that have as many as eight spindles. The most common configuration for multi spindle screw machines is six, however, some products require more, and therefore more spindles are needed for this process. Each spindle serves a specific purpose in the manufacturing sequence. In a multi spindle machine, each does its job to create the end product at the same time. If one is not working properly it can cause the end product to be incorrect.
In addition to multi spindle screw machines, there are also ones that only contain one spindle. The same products are able to be made using the single type as opposed to a multi version; however the process is a little different. Because there is only one spindle, only one process can be completed at a time as opposed to simultaneously. This can make the process of creating each product longer. If there are five processes to complete the product, it would take longer to come to the end result because of having to perform each process one after the other. By performing each process at the same time, it saves both time and money and allows for products to be output at a higher volume.
The sizes and shapes of this equipment can greatly affect the product being produced as well. Machining spindles range in size depending on what it is needed for. It is important to know the specific purpose for use because you do not want to regret your decision in the future. While these contraptions are versatile and can do many different jobs, you can't add spindles to one that already exists. Therefore, it is very important to choose the right one for you and the job you intend to do.
The power given to any single or multi-spindle screw machine will greatly affect the quality of the finished product. Some use carbide technology to produce a higher quality, safer, and more efficient piece of equipment. Some who work with these prefer not to use carbide technology because they simply aren't used to using them, lack of tooling to hold the inserts correctly, or the fact that the spindles need to run at certain speeds that some carbide products cannot offer. Many carbide products offered have not been manipulated to correctly fit single or multi types. Most will optimize power specifically determined by what the end product will be. If you are in the market you must evaluate the end product you'd like to manufacture before determining which is right for you.
