Tips To Staying Sane When Dealing With Water Damage Restorstion
Luana Pershing
water damage restoration and Flood damage affectds our homes and our lives. Sometimes we can pick up the pieces and put our lives back together and sometimes we just never get to be the same. For all the devastation that flood damage can do, there are ways to minimize the impact on property, and on your mental and physical well being.
1) Remain calm. While it is heartbreaking to lose your home, your car and all of your worldly possessions, keep this in mind - you made it through the flood, and you will make it through the flood damage and its aftermath.
2) Check on friends, family and other loved ones who may be dealing with flood damage as well. Make sure that pets are located and cared for- especially if it will be several days before you can return to your home.
3) Take a step back from the situation. Think carefully and logically about what all needs to be done. You know you will need to call your insurance agent to have an appraisal of the flood damage. If the flood was a major one, the likelihood will be that it will take some time before an adjuster can get to you, so be sure to document everything as thoroughly as you can in both writing and by picture. If you have access to a video camera, then all the better.
4) Flood damage is not always apparent right away, so pay close attention to the foundation of your home and other standing structures. Make sure that there is an expert opinion given on the integrity of your home and foundation in case of future problems.
5) Insurance money can replace many things, but it cannot pay for your fear, your pain and the misery caused by flood damage. Hence, allow yourself the time to feel your grief and work through it. Do not allow yourself to get caught up in any one else's time table. You know how you feel, nobody else does.
6) Flood damage are not always permanent, but they can certainly feel like it. It will take a while, maybe even a few years to get things back to normal, so try to remain prepared.
7) Water dmaage restoration can be just as devastating outside as they can be inside. Your yard, your outdoor equipment and furniture and your landscaping will all suffer the ill-effects of flood water. Trees, shrubs and ornamental plants can become uprooted or weakened- if not whisked away outright. The lawn can become discolored, especially if it remains submerged for a long period of time. Your insurance may cover some of the loss, but more than likely not all of it, and nobody can compensate you for the hard work that it took to plant it all.
8) Prevent future water damage restoration needs. Once you have begun putting your life back together, then look into ways of at least minimizing problems in the future. Keep mindful of weather advisories and move items as high as possible.
