How To Pick Your Wedding Tux?
Rita Welldon
When choosing a wedding tux, it's important to take into consideration how formal your wedding will be. While weddings traditionally are more formal than other events, there are levels of formal. This depends on the type of dress your bride will be wearing, the venue for the reception, whether the ceremony will be in a church, fancy hall or on the beach.
If your wedding is ultra formal, then you can get away with wearing evening tails and a white tie. But don't get a wedding tux like this if you're getting married on the beach. It'll look pretentious and inappropriate.
For less formal weddings, you can get away with wearing a suit if you'd like. But a wedding tux looks so much nicer. And even if you have a funky personality that loves all things quirky, stay away at all costs from renting novelty ties, vests and cummerbunds. You'll look silly and you'll probably make your bride one very unhappy woman.
Since it's unlikely that you'll need to wear a tux any time soon to anything besides your wedding, it's best to save yourself hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars, by renting a wedding tux. There are plenty of tux rental stores that'll be able to cater to your needs, but before you even visit one, you need to make some important decisions regarding the parts of the tux.
Renting a wedding tux consists of choosing a jacket, shirt, pants, vest or cummerbund, shoes, tie, cufflinks and even socks. And you may be surprised at the amount of thought you're going to need to put into each to look as elegant and classy as possible. It's a good idea to enlist the help of your fiancée if she hasn't already insisted on helping you with choosing your wedding tux.
Jackets can be single-breasted with one or more buttons to double-breasted with numerous buttons and coat tails. Coat tails should be reserved for only the most formal weddings. As far as choosing another type of jacket, it's a good idea to ask help from a sales associate.
To help you decide what style you like, you can looking through the catalog of tuxes that the store of your choice is sure to have. You can decide what you like by look and then figure out if the style suits your body type by trying them on. A search online of different wedding tux styles will also give you an idea of what's available before you even step in a store. One word of advice: while tails are reserved for only the most ultra-formal weddings, you can wear a single-breasted tux jacket to almost any type of event. Short men also tend to look better in single-breasted jackets while men with more substance to their bodies can get away with double-breasted jackets.
Ideally when choosing a shirt to go with your wedding tux, you should stay traditional. This means avoid the classic ruffled look and the band-collared shirt without a tie that looks somewhat priest like.
