It would probably be difficult to put an exact number on the thousands and thousands of Americans who are dealing with water and mold damaged homes because of all the flooding that has taken place in the 2008 year. From the beginning of the spring season through the hurricane season of summer, floods have devastated many areas scattered across the country. From the Midwest to the Deep South, homes and businesses have been damaged or destroyed due to catastrophic weather systems.
There is a bright side to look for after the storm clouds that carried in all the destruction have disappeared. When all the flood water has receded out of these homes and businesses, many of them can be saved. Many of the belongings that were in them will have to be disposed of because they can not be salvaged. The buildings themselves have many issues to be dealt with depending on the level of water that was in them and how long it was there. These are some of the things that flood victims will have to face when they begin putting their home back in order.
1. Clearing out all damaged articles such as furniture, appliances and personal items like pictures and keepsakes that can not be salvaged.
2. Finding a temporary place to store items that can be saved that can not be placed in an undamaged area of the home or property.
3. An inspection must be done for the entire home to determine the extent of damage. The homes structure, walls, floors, and ceilings might need to replaced or repaired because of the water damage and perhaps mold growth as well.
4. In most severe flooding cases a professional water damage company will have to be engaged to do the clean up and repairs necessary.
5. In a lot of instances a flooded homeowner will have to live elsewhere while their home is cleaned and repaired, so getting back to normal can take a while.
6. Replacing all of the destroyed home furnishings will probably be last on the list. You homeowners insurance policy should help with these expenses too if you are covered.
It will likely be one of the most challenging things that these flood victims will ever have to go through in order to reclaim the lives they had before the disaster. There will also be those who will have to take a total loss on their home if it was destroyed to the point of no return. Hopefully, Mother Nature will choose to take a rest and limit the amount of flooding that Americans have to face next year, but it is never a good idea to plan on her not doing her worst. It is smart for anyone to be prepared for floods because as so many this year have found out they can take place almost anywhere you might live.
