A good writing job should ensure that the readers of the site or the customers, in case it is a commercial site, are able to understand how the website works and what it can do for them. Many studies have been made to find out the reading habit of people who are looking for information on the Internet. Most of the studies have come to similar conclusions that people generally read a website quite differently from reading a newspaper, magazine or a brochure. A few key findings of these studies are being elaborated below, so that you could improve your copywriting skills so as o attract and hold the attention of the visitors to your site:
1Visitors generally read the headline first, followed by sub-headings, paragraphs and captions. Graphics attract much less attention of a reader.
2Generally, a reader takes not more fifteen seconds to decide whether they should continue reading the site or skip it.
3In case, the visitor decides to continue reading, most of them would read around 75% of the page.
4Generally, any user reads a website at a speed that is about 25% slower than reading a normal printed page.
5Readers generally scan text while reading on the web rather than reading it word by word.
6To attract attention, the "inverted pyramid" method should be applied. All the relevant information should be put in the heading, sub-heading and the first paragraph so that as to capture the attention of the reader
7As has been already stated earlier, more attention should be paid towards the contents rather than on the graphics.
8Calls to action and Contact information should be placed towards the top of the page rather than at the bottom.
9Text should be broken up into smaller paragraphs. Bullet points, sub-headings and white spaces should be used to provide help to reading.

11Text used should be concise and objective so as to engage the interest of the reader.
The main idea of the writing job should be to enable the visitor to the site to read and then absorb the information provided on the site. This will make the content relevant to them and would make them stay longer on the site. Therefore, the aim of your copywriting exercise should be to make it concise, optimized and yet creative to enable you to attract visitors to your site and would help you in the growth of your business.
