Bathing apart from being a daily routine has become a favorite pastime or hobby to many. Lets admit it, it feels great to take a bath and spend hours staying in the bathtub most of these hours sleeping in the bubble bath.
There are many people who love to stay in their bathroom; they consider this as their relaxation area or just a place to escape the world. Magazines and other reading materials are often placed here to accompany people in the long hours of stay in there; some even have television sets installed.
No matter how much you love your bathroom always remember that it needs to be kept clean. Yes, cleaning it has been part of our daily routine but sometimes cleaning is just not enough; bathrooms especially need to be disinfected. A lot of germs and bacteria have been known to thrive on its surfaces and the air in this space. You wouldn't want to have yourself or any of your family sick just because of these so take the necessary measure to prevent these from happening.
The type of bathroom fixtures and other must be taken into consideration for health and safety reasons. For the toilet, sink, bathtub and other similar fixtures they must be made of a smooth surface and of neutral colored material as possible. With these, cleaning would be easier and the dirt would easily be noticeable. Finishes like tiles or natural stone materials may be smooth to a little bit rough depending on you. To help you choose here are the pros and cons: Smooth finishing materials are easy to clean and avoid dirt from sticking but having those makes your bathroom prone to slippage; it is dangerous for young kids and older people. Materials that are a bit course help lessen slippage but dirt would easily stick to it. Molds often grow in them which make cleaning very hard and would require the aid of strong cleaning agents.
In constructing the bathroom, avoid having counters with pointed corners; have smooth lines for then by having them curved. If corners especially in cabinets could not be avoided, it is better to have overhead cabinets. We also like having raised platforms made of a hard material to place our soap, shampoo and other stuff we need for bathing but please avoid them. When people slip and there are platforms as such, there is a big chance that they would hit their head which is very dangerous. We have heard stories of people who died because of such an accident. It is better to place your things for bathing on counters or racks that are placed on a higher part of the wall.
Always remember that it would be safer to assist little kids and old people when using the bathroom. It would be best if you place yourself somewhere near them (while still giving them their privacy) where you could easily be reached if anything wrong happens. Another good idea is to place a telephone nearby or in it so as to easily call for help.
