Tips For Avoiding Water Damage In The Home
Dat
costs can be pretty prohibitive, so it's always best to avoid water damage before it happens at all. It's not easy to spot problem areas in the home, since most water damage happens inside cupboards and behind pieces of furniture. It's a good idea to look at certain spots in your home every now and then to check for problems. Here are some of them.
#1 - Check the sink and kitchen counter.
The sink is one of the most water damage-prone areas in the house, simply because lots of washing is done on it. Make sure that the faucet closes properly and doesn't leak when unattended, and check under the sink to make sure the P-trap is properly in place. It's easy to miss leaks in the cupboard under the sink, so take out the refuse bin and other clutter when making checks.
Also, check the tiles for any missing grout, since these are channels where water can seep in and accumulate. can be costly if it includes the tiles and countertop, and not only the piping.
#2 - Check the refrigerator.
Some models of refrigerators create water as a byproduct, and water can accumulate behind it if it's not maintained regularly enough. If you don't look behind the refrigerator often enough, you may have to deal with when mildew begins to creep onto the floor, walls, and refrigerator body.
#3 - Check the dishwasher.
Another appliance that needs regular maintenance is the dishwasher. The main filter may get clogged after a while, and this may result to leaks and spills. This can be pretty troublesome especially if your dishwasher is in the kitchen island, since the water can do more damage than otherwise.
#4 - Check the air quality.
One of the simplest ways to know whether water is seeping into your home is by checking the air quality. If you think the air in a certain room seems more humid than other parts of the home, then there might be a leak somewhere. Better check it out before it does any more damage.
When you find areas of water damage than you can't fix yourself, then it's never a bad idea to hire the experts to do the job for you. may cost you a bit, but it's always better than doing things yourself and risk making the problem worse!
If you are a property owner in the Michigan area who has been impacted by water damage, contact for a free consultation and estimate.
