Be Patient With Your Pomeranian
Rosie Allan
The first thing that a Pomeranian owner learns about his Pomeranian is that despite its small size and cuteness, this breed is full of courage and makes an excellent watchdog that is not afraid of anything. Though he may yap more often than you may be able to tolerate. The only irritant with owning a Pomeranian when considering training is its relative reluctance to be housebroken. This means that you need to be very patient and persevering if you want to see the right behavior in your Pomeranian.
The first step in Pomeranian potty training is to keep it in a playpen that also has clean newspaper down and where its food and water are kept along with a comfortable bed where it can sleep. It is a good idea to begin its potty training by taking it out when he wakes up in the morning and show him the area where he should go.
And to further reinforce the habit, it should then be taken to the same place at regular intervals and following every meal. When he does the right thing it would be a good idea to show your approval by using positive rewards. Of course, accidents are bound to occur and should be taken in stride rather than physically punishing the pet or rubbing its nose in the mess, as this should be avoided at all times. After all, you want to teach it the proper thing to do rather than make it fearful of you and that is what good Pomeranian potty training is all about.
There is a lot more to Pomeranian training than taking it out to where it should go, because good potty training will also require you to clean up after it and when doing so to ensure that you clean up all traces of the accident so that no trace of it lingers. In fact, there are also some products available on the market that smell just like urine and by placing these where you want your Pomeranian to go. You will get good results because your pet will readily associate the smell with having to go potty.
Another useful tip as far as Pomeranian potty training goes is that when you catch your Pomeranian doing his potty where he shouldn't remember to clap your hands loudly and to also say no forcefully and loudly, after which you can pick him up and take him outside. The effect of your voice should awaken him to what he is doing wrong and also make him stop, and once he is taken outside, he can complete his business once more.Once he does that, you should praise him and even give him a reward.
Contrary to what you may expect when it concerns training and more particularly Pomeranian potty training, it is an exercise that does not require more than a proper frame of mind and also getting your Pomeranian started out as soon as he becomes your family member.
Also, there will be many instances when you catch him in the act of making a mess where he shouldn't and at such times you need to remember that you should not rub its nose in the mess or use any physical reprimand because that is not the right way to go about potty training.
What is important is that Pomeranian potty training means being successful in getting your pet to associate a place or places (preferably outside the home) where it should do his potty. It is through positive reinforcement that the best results will come about making a happy and harmonious home for both you and your pet.
