Spain - Popular European Vacation Destination
John Douglas
Spain is a very picturesque country, with a land full of intriguing history. The Spanish people are just as extraordinairy and are very welcoming to tourists. Take plenty of time to explore the many options and vacation opportunities that are available before deciding which part of Spain you wish to visit. A great part of Spain for a family friendly vacation is Andalucia, in the province of Southern Spain. Here, like anywhere in Spain you will have wonderful weather and beautiful scenery.
One of the most historic cities in Andalucia is Cordoba. Here, visitors can enjoy the breezy, year-round Mediterranean climate and explore ancient structures dating back to the Roman Empire. Those with an interest in ancient architecture find the town of Cordoba fascinating.
The Great Cathedral and Mosque is the most popular attraction in Cordoba. Originally, the site was home to a Visigothic Church until Cordoba was conquered by the Moors. The Islamic Moors demolished the church and constructed a mosque in its place. Later, when Cordoba became Spanish territory, the mosque was once again used as a church. Today, visitors can step back into history as they walk through the magnificent double arches and explore the incredible architecture of the structure. Onyx, marble, and granite were all used in the construction of the remarkable cathedral.
If you are interested in the history of Spain then Cordoba has quite a few interesting museums to visit. The museums of Cordoba contains the most valuable, historical artifacts that relate to the history of Spain, and cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The most wonderful display of historical artifacts and plant life can be found in the Palacio Museo de Vianna. Here you can view numerous artifacts that are thousands of years old, or visit any one of the fourteen gardens that are so beautifully maintained.
San Sebastian is not a city without history. It has gone through many changes spanning thousands of years. It has been a religious city, a military town, and has been destroyed by fire twice, each time being rebuilt to the splendor that is seen today.
San Sebastian is very well known for its festivals and celebrations, which is one of the main attractions for tourists. The city holds several different events annually, and the San Sebastian Jazz Festival, Jazzaldia attracts music lovers from all walks of life. The festival lasts for six days, offering plenty of fine local food to sample and plenty of jazz music to listen and dance to. This festival is now in it's fortieth year, which shows just how popular and well recognised the festival has become over the years. Another festival that is held in San Sebastian every year is the horror and fantasy film festival. A great festival offering not just horror movies but also stand up comics, street shows and live music. Every year vistors come from all over the world to sample this real, live entertainment.
These two annual events and the many others celebrated each year, along with the fantastic food of San Sebastian, makes this a terrific vacation destination for those desiring a cultural experience. Influenced by the Basques, San Sebastian cuisine can be savored anywhere in the city, from small cafes along the pristine, sandy beaches to friendly dine-in restaurants that offer a comfortable atmosphere. Any visit to San Sebastian is sure to be an experience in taste you will never forget.
