Advertising is the life blood of commerce. Without proper advertising, any product or idea could not be popularized. Whether the product is big or small, it requires good advertising campaign to reach to the potential customers for its proper marketing.
Advertising started with outdoor advertising and advertisements in print media. Advertisers are always on the lookout for newer medium for their advertising campaign. As a part of outdoor marketing campaign, is also gaining popularity. Using taxis as a media for advertisement has started more than thirty five years ago and it is quite popular especially in USA, Great Britain and many European cities.
In fact, all modes of transportation like trains and buses are quite popular as a medium of advertising. Taxi, being a very popular mode of public transportation, is also very popular for advertising. People, who are travelling or walking on the road, would come across these taxis frequently. Therefore, the visibility of these advertisements, which appears on the outside of the car or in its inside, to potential customers is very important. But, the effectiveness of these ads on taxis is very difficult to measure.
It would require extensive research to assess the performance of these campaigns utilizing taxi advertising. It would be important to identify the factors which would influence the measurement of such performance.
The reason why an advertiser would consider taxi as a medium for his ad campaign is because of its reach. In a survey it has been found that 71% of adults notice the advertisements they see in a taxi. If you consider the number of trips taxis make in a month which is about 38.4 million, the reach of a taxi advertisement would be enormous and such advertising would appear quite economical considering the cost involved in placing such advertisements. Another plus point of taxi advertising is that 61% of the people who hire a taxi are young people of ages between 15 and 44 and 63% belong to ABC1 category. Taxis also reach such areas where other kinds of media do not reach. A few points in favor of Taxi advertising are:
1Taxis travel on the average 126 miles per day in the city centre of a city like London which is quite populous.
2People in the age group of 15 to 34 notice advertisements in a taxi 24 times more than other people.
Therefore, if you are thinking of carrying out your advertisement with a very large reach and at a very economical cost, you should consider taxi advertising as your first option before thinking of any other options.
