Going cold turkey is the fastest way to kick the habit but it's the hardest one too. You can get rid of all the nicotine in your body in just a few days but the impact to your system can be irritating and sometimes painful. You would cough hard and your urge to smoke would be strong but this won't be a problem if you know how to control yourself and by throwing all cigarettes within your reach. Stay away from smokers and run away from smoking areas where you could inhale cigarette smokes.
Products to aid you to quit smoking are also available over the counter and through doctor's prescription. This helps you by gradually reducing your intake of nicotine until you reach the point that your body does not need any nicotine at all. It's not an instant solution but it's one of the easiest because you don't shock your system.
The need for products to help aid in your smoking problem only makes quitting easier but you don't need to spend on these if you can gradually cut back on your smoking. If for example you smoke 20 cigarettes a day, try smoking 15 cigarettes a day for 1 week then the second week only 10 cigarettes and so on until you can quit smoking without experiencing withdrawal symptoms.
Support groups and counseling and even hypnotism could work for you too but just like any other approach, they will only work if you are determined for it to work.
This is really where you have to produce efforts : determination. You must only think about success, this is hard to admit it, but think that failure is not an option. If your mind is set on quitting and only quitting you should be able to keep your hands and mind busy any time and avoid having the thought of smoking become stronger than other activities. Maybe you can think about a day during your smoker life that you were able to stay smoke free during hours or even a whole day simply because you were mentally or physically busy. This is an exercise you can do, and reproduce in a lot of manners.
There are hundreds of ways to keep you busy at home or outsidse : reading a book, writing a letter, exercising, unclettering the house, go shopping, gardening, watching a movie, etc. What if you start planning few activities for the next coming days ?
