Is Your Safe Burglar Proof?
Zack5 Zack5
Have you ever thought about how to break open a safe? Most of us think the opposite when we purchase a security safe. We think about how this safe will ensure that our valuables will never be stolen. However, as odd as it sounds, when you purchase a safe you should be asking yourself that question. This is not to say that you will need to break into your own safe, but it is to say that others will try their hand at cracking yours. Here is some information that will keep your safe ?safe? from harm.
When we think about safe crackers we usually think of all the movies that depict it as a glamorous lifestyle lived by a few unique thieves. This is usually shown as a burglar breaking into high tech safes in a matter of minutes. And although this is not really believable for this day in age, it can be done by a few nonetheless. This is because safe crackers have spent years perfecting their skills to stay on top of new security measure. On the other hand, what you will see that is very common is a burglar taking your safe away with them to be opened at their leisure.
Although it is true that few thieves know how to crack the newer style safes out there, most thieves will know how to blow something up or use a sledge hammer. This is why you should always make sure your safes are properly installed, because unless it weights a few ton, a standard safe is portable. So to prevent this, make sure that your safe is bolted to the floor with proper anchor bolts if it isn't the floor safe type. Floor safes are perhaps the safest types out there today. Not only are they set in concrete and therefore immovable, they also come with a fire rating. This is especially important for your documents and valuables that you cannot replace. However, what would protect such floor safes from a burglar breaking it open on the spot?
What you will find is that there are many ways a burglar can break into a safe. For some, explosives may be used, but most often that will only be a last resort in order to protect the contents. But other burglars may try to drill their way through. This is why it is important to purchase safes with high safety ratings like a TL-15 or TL-30 if you have valuables worth $30,000 or more in your safe. These ratings mean that they were tested in a laboratory using common tools to try and break them open, and the number corresponds to the amount of time spent on testing it. In other words, safes with a TL-30 rating were tested for 30 minutes using common tools like drills, punches, hammers, and the like. In the end it all comes down to how safe you want to keep your valuables, and although a safe is better than no safe, the right safe is just even better.
