It seems that the economy is affecting every industry and the travel industry is often one of the first ones to feel the cuts in consumer budgets.

Entertainment is often the first item that people cut from their budgets when money begins to get tight. The travel industry saw some of it last year when gas prices climbed so high. Experts are predicting that 2009 will be even worse for most parts of the travel industry.

An Excess supply of anything means that the buyer typically has the upper hand. It is easier to negotiate a lower price, better terms or other factors that are more agreeable to the buyer. Travel in 2009 will be hot for buyers. Empty cabins on cruise ships, empty seats in the air and empty hotel rooms all mean that the consumer will be in a great position to negotiate terms that make travel in these tough times something to be considered.

Many companies are putting out a preemptive strike by offering incredible packages. Booking now for a vacation later could save you even bigger bucks and could add special tickets for events and activities in the area.

Last year many hotels were offering gas vouchers to entice consumers to visit. This year the offers only continue to grow and expand. The tighter money gets for consumers because of the falling economy then the harder the travel industry has to work to earn that money. This may mean some rough times for the travel industry in the months to come but it means some great deals for consumers that are eager to find ways to stretch budgets that already seem stretched well beyond their limits.
