Depression Treatments, How To Treat Depression
John Adison
Depression can be very difficult to live with, it can leave you feeling as though you have nothing to look forward to, every tasks seem impossible to complete and you can find it hard to get up in the mornings. Everyone feels depressed from time to time but when it gets so bad that you are struggling to cope it is time to find out more about depression treatment.
It is extraordinary to note that depression, in most people, is as a result of conflict between the conscious and unconscious mind. The past events and experiences of our lives, which are presumed forgotten, are usually stored in the unconscious mind. When memories from this part of the mind begin to take over an individual's consciousness, it creates a kind of fog over the mind, causing the confusion and anxiety that characterizes depression
Start slowly. Consult with your doctor to determine an appropriate activity level for you. Begin your workouts gradually. It is far better to go slowly and ease into the program then to allow your adrenaline to take over and overdo it in the gym. Your level of soreness and discomfort will keep you away from exercising if you push too hard initially, and this will defeat the purpose of regular exercise as a kind prescription for treating your depression.
The most common herb used in the treatment for depression is St. John's Wort. It has been known to start working in as little as two weeks. It's also been found to be just as good as those antidepressants the doctors like to hand out. If you have mild to mid depression then this one might be a really good choice. Be sure not to mix this with other medication you may be taking. Be sure to ask you doctor if it's okay for you take.
Valerian Root is most commonly used to treat sleeping disorders that depressive people can experience. It has been proven that it reduces anxiety and stress and improves the quality of sleep. Some people experience digestive problems if they use it for a long period of time and some build up a resistance to its sedative quality and get the opposite result. Instead of feeling sedated, they feel stimulated.
Meditation is no longer an esoteric or time consuming practice. Twenty minutes a day go a long way. Look at it as a "mind workout" for a lot less time than many of us spend in front of the TV (which by the way is mostly stressful). Beside increasing your Serotonin levels, there are other body direct responses to meditation, most noticeable being the increase in the DHEA (natural steroid pro-hormone produced from cholesterol by the adrenal glands) that naturally decreases with age. Similar benefits with the HGH (Human Growth Hormone) that is naturally released during deep sleep or deep ... meditation.
