The eczema appears as red, weepy, crusty skin. It generally appears on the lower legs where varicose veins are present. The broken skin can get infected with bacteria and cause cellulitis. It can also spread to other parts of the body and may develop discolored skin and ulcers at the spot of formation.
Causes-
Stasis eczema or venous eczema is caused due to faulty blood circulation in the legs. Those who have varicose veins are prone to get stasis eczema. In the legs, the muscles pump the blood back when you walk. Because of defective valves, when the blood is not pumped back, it gets accumulated in the legs causing varicose veins. It also causes eczema. This eczema is also known as gravitational eczema.
Treatment-
To treat this eczema, you may have to use steroid creams. If bacterial infection is present, antibiotics may be needed. Your doctor will prescribe the best medication. When your eczema gets cleared, you should get the veins treated. Otherwise the eczema may return.
