How Does An Intervention Program In Pennsylvania Plan A Relapse Prevention Strategy?
Todd Lange
If you are participating in an intervention program in Pennsylvania for someone's treatment, you will need to know that you will be expected to be a part of the relapse prevention program too, which will immediately follow the detoxification program. The relapse prevention is the part of the program where the patient is counseled and cared for in such a way that the patient does not feel an urge to consume the substance again. Only when the patient is completely out of the usage of the substance can the treatment be said to be completed.
However, planning a relapse prevention program haphazardly would not help. It is important to get this treatment meted out in a very cautious and carefully planned manner. That is the only way it can be expected to work.
The following is the manner in which an intervention program in Pennsylvania should plan a relapse prevention strategy.
1.The first thing that the intervention program must do is to make the family aware that the treatment is not complete with the detox program. There is still a long way to go. The intervention must make it clear that the patient may get into a re-addiction at any point of time if they are not careful. Making the family realize the significance of a relapse is necessary so that they can help in monitoring the condition of the patient and also help in the relapse prevention program in their own way.
2.The patient should be escorted home from the treatment center, and people of the intervention program are the best candidates to do this. When the family has been adequately counseled on relapse and how it can be prevented, the patient can be brought back home. At the same time, the intervention must take care that the patient is not too disoriented when he or she comes back home, but gets familiarized with the surroundings once again, taking things one at a time.
3.Now, the patient needs to be explained the significance of a relapse. They must be told that if a relapse does happen, then they would have suffered through the treatment for nothing. They must be told that they are very close to complete recovery, but they have to pass through this final test where they build up their determination to stay away from the substance.
4.Coaching the patient is a must. They must be trained on how to identify the signals that a relapse might occur and when that happens, what are the immediate measures that they must take in order to keep away from the relapse. An intervention program in Pennsylvania trains patients on methods such as Yoga, meditation and relaxation exercises, breathing exercises, spiritual and faith-based healing methods and many more such techniques that can help them allay the urges for the substance when it occurs.
5.The patient must be also told to avoid all the familiar places and people that might remind them of the addiction. This is quite important because it takes only as little as a push to get back into an addiction. These things need to be avoided.
6.When all these immediate measures have been taken, a very careful plan will be set up to bring the patient back into the kind of living he or she was in before. There might have been several contact lost or groups unsigned from when the person got into the addiction. Now, taking things quite gradually, an attempt is made to bring the patient back into their original lifestyle. They are encouraged to rebuild friendships, rejoin clubs and groups that they abandoned and become socially active. All these are means to make the person get occupied in a constructive manner so that they do not feel the temptation of the addictive substance so very strongly and can more effectively look at their recovery.
7.If the patient had a professional life before getting into the addiction, they are made to get back into that life. An intervention program in Pennsylvania might help people to get jobs even so that they find the lost meaning to their lives. When they find that they have become proactive and productive once again, they will slowly overcome the addiction.
In this way, the intervention program carefully plans and implements a strategy for relapse prevention for people who have come out of addiction treatment in Pennsylvania. These methods are much more important than the actual treatment itself because these are what will secure long term recovery from the addiction.
