Choose Keywords Carefully
First, you need to do some careful thinking and researching about the keywords for your web site. The keywords you choose should be the words people would use to find a homebuilder online. Don’t stick to ordinary keywords, such as “homebuilder." For one, it’s going to be used by almost everyone in the industry and that means even if you do a good job with your SEO you’ll probably still rank lower than most of your competition.
Think about more specific keyword combinations. For example, if you do building in San Diego you might choose a keyword phrase like “San Diego homebuilders" or “Homebuilders in San Diego." If you specialize in certain types of houses, then utilize those in your keywords.
Not only will using specific keywords improve your rankings but it will bring you more targeted traffic which should lead to a higher conversion rate.
Focus on Content
Another key part of SEO is creating content that is keyword rich but not at the expense of readability. We’ve all come across web sites filled with pages that were clearly written only because the site wanted a good ranking. The content usually either makes no sense or provides no valuable information.
Instead, you want to provide knowledge rich content that includes the keywords and phrases you’ve chosen to target. To do that, you should focus on only a few keywords at a time. Keep in mind the shape of an hourglass as you are writing the content. Ideally, your primary keyword should appear in the title of your page, several times in the introduction and opening of the content, and several times near the end of the content.
Link Building
Besides keyword-rich content, SEO also involves link building. That means you’ll want to include both inbound and outbound links to your content in order to improve the traffic. Outbound links are ones that lead from your site to other sites, preferably sites that are full of relevant content. Add links to your content whenever you can and try to point those links to .org or .edu sites.
Inbound links, on the other hand, can be more difficult to come by. These are links that will lead to your site from a third-party site. If you have multiple sites, then definitely include links on them. Submit articles to directories and other locations along with links back to your site. Finally, consider doing some public relations work, such as donating money or equipment to a school, in exchange for a link of the school’s web site. That will be a valuable inbound link for SEO purposes.
