Traditionally the term 'mentor' is given to one who advises, counsels, guides or teaches a younger or less experienced person. In modern days such a person is often referred to as a 'guru'. The mentor has wisdom and experience to offer the less experienced person. The one receiving the mentoring, called a 'mentee', needs to have the drive to acquire this wisdom or insight. The value of a mentoring system is in the availability of the more experienced individual who understands the processes or issues confronting a less experienced mentee and who can help them avoid the hurdles or setbacks along the way, or provide a sneak preview to the mentee of what lies in store.
