Nowadays, eloping is not yet well-received especially in highly conservative and religious countries. There are a number of reasons cited below by couples as to why they prefer to elope than have a traditional ceremony:

* Practical money-wise - We all know that getting married entails a lot of preparation. Wedding is expensive, no doubt. Choosing a small one with just the immediate family and the closest friends still would eat up your life savings. But if a couple elope, everything seems to be settled with no enormous bills accrued by both parties.

Of course, couples who elope also have to shell money for traveling to get away from people who know them. But the expenses accumulated will also include a simple wedding. This does not involve elaborate preparations, food, guests, and others. Honeymoon may be at the same place. There are even wedding packages available for those cash-strapped couples. So eloping is really cost effective as compared to the traditional wedding ceremony.

* Some couples want a simple wedding - This reason may not hold true for all couples but there are some who really prefer a simple and quiet wedding as opposed to a circus-like one. The couples who prefer this could have been married in the past and would like their second wedding less conspicuous than the one they have been previously involved with. Eloping would involve only the couples.

* To avoid problems accompanying a big ceremony - With big events come huge problems. This is true of weddings and other ceremonies of great proportion. Getting married is like putting up a show like no other. Since this is the most special day for the couples everything need to be in order. Sometimes just thinking about the upcoming event will give sleepless nights to both parties. This is what most couples dread and avoid as much as possible that is why they would rather elope than be in this situation.

Eloping will not require any of this. Guests never play a great part in the union so couples can do whatever they want with their wedding. Attire, locations, menu, and guest list are never on top of the preparation. Only the union matters when couples elope.

* It is for the hopelessly romantic - Couples eloping are fixtures in books and movies. This is probably where most couples get the idea. Eloping is something out of the ordinary so couples relish the idea of doing it.

However, it does not mean that when you elope there is no room for inviting people close to you in your wedding. You have. A few people around to witness your wedding is not too expensive. Add to this, you are celebrating the most important day in your lives together with few chosen people close to you. Couples who elope may opt for resort packages and they may pay for their guests' stay. This is not too heavy on the pocket.

Eloping is not a taboo option anymore. This is for the practical, no-nonsense couples who are willing to do away with circus-like weddings and invite only those dearly close to them.
