How To Write Thorough EBay Descriptions For Your Items
Chris H.
First of all you have to remember that since people cannot touch your item, they will need a very detailed description of its features as well as its flaws (if any.) The key is to be totally up front about your item. It is great to boast about the benefits but leaving out any of the flaws can lead to trouble down the road. The last thing you want is for an irate customer to complain to you and eBay about the item you sold them. An angry customer will do almost whatever it takes to get their money back and even if you cooperate fully, they may try to tarnish your reputation just out of spite.
When you begin listing your items features try not to write one long paragraph. Break up your paragraphs to make it easier to read. Also include bullet points for key features. This makes is simple for the potential customer to scan what they may be looking for. Don't be afraid to use colors or bold your text if there is something that you need to stand out. For example, if the item has a ding or scratch, bold this fact so that there is no doubt that you didn't mention it. Unfortunately, there will still be people who will ask you about something that is clearly in your description, but it is always best to play it safe and disclose everything.
Don't hold back when you begin writing your descriptions. You may answer many questions in your details saving you time in having to reply to customer questions in emails. Personally, I like very long detailed descriptions of an item I am considering buying because I feel like the seller comes across as an honest seller and many times, I do not have to ask a question about a specific feature or flaw. It also helps if you keep your description organized. Try to keep the benefits and features in one section then breakdown any flaws in another.
Photos also play a very important role in your descriptions. Take as many good photos of your item as you can. Take shots from the front, back, sides, and bottom if necessary. Zoom in on any flaws so that customers have a clear picture of what you wrote in your description. As I mentioned before, even if you have outlined every little thing, you will have customers who will write and ask you something already mentioned. Don't be rude in replying to them by saying "it's in the description." Be nice and answer them anyway because answering that question could be their deciding factor on buying the product. Be honest and very thorough when writing all of your item descriptions and you should notice an increase in sales and less hassle down the road.
