Careing For A Wet Kitchen
Jim Corkern
Our kitchen can be one of the most used spaces in our house. It could be the most hectic hub of family gatherings for meals and late night treats. For holidays kitchens will be essential when it comes to showing a good time to our guest. Many residences this day and age have open floor plans and the kitchens are so visible. There are great quantities of money being invested on exquisite natural stone floors, counter tops, and the most expensive appliances.
Kitchens are one of the rooms in a residence that might be the most prone to water damage. Other than the plumbing installed for the sinks in the kitchen, there can be water lines running to refrigerators, dishwashers, and many times a washing machine or hot water heater will be closeted nearby. A big flood in a kitchen can put it out of working condition for days or even weeks.
If an inbound water line in your kitchen comes loose or bursts, it could be terrible, especially if you are out when it takes place. If you have been away for a few hours or even worse for a few days, the entire home can be affected. If you see that your kitchen or some other part of your dwelling place has gotten flooded with any large quantity of water, the first thing to do is shut off the electricity using the main breaker in your fuse box. Next, shut the water off as quickly as you can.
If you do not have the tool to turn the water off outside at the main line, contact your water company. When the water is off, disconnect all appliances that are in or near the water. If the quantity of water is not really a big quantity, you may use a wet/dry vacuum to get it up, but this could take a while and time is of the essence when water is wetting your dwelling place. The faster it is gotten up, the less chance there may be for wood damage and mold.
If the water is a great quantity, make a call to a water damage specialist. They can get the job done more adequately and the expense can be covered by your home insurance policy. Do not use your electrical items that might be water damaged until you have them approved for use by an experienced repairman.
